Introduction about yourself and your company?
My name is Garen Ovsepyan and I am one of the Founding Members of Thalr. Thalr is a silver bullion-backed cryptocurrency with a unique ecosystem that allows for mobile mining while maintaining true decentralization. Thalr is NOT A TOKEN, but the evolution of the next generation of cryptocurrency or as we like to call it digital currency. Thalr is built from the ground up with a unique PoW (Proof of Work) algorithm and will be the future for means of exchange. Cryptocurrencies are a great evolution of money, yet nobody uses them as such even after a decade of existence. The use case for nearly all crypto is still, for the most part, speculation. We feel that the future of payments and money, in particular, is mobile. Thalr provides the infrastructure for a truly decentralized peer to peer payment system that also has an exceptional and favorable ecosystem that provides for sound money and the ability to bank the unbanked across the Globe.
How are you and your business in this time of crisis?
With technology today, we are all essentially borderless. As such, being able to communicate via the technology available to us makes things much easier and for the most part, as if nothing had happened. Most developers have usually stuck behind their computers all day anyway, so it didn’t really make much of a difference.
What do you think will happen after all quarantine period will be lifted?
I think we’ll mostly get back to “normal”, but I also think that people will be a lot more hygiene conscious. Other than that, I’m sure that governments will like to implement more control over their citizens and gather more data for the “safety of the public”
What are the things you’re doing this lockdown period?
Working, spending time with my wife and 3 kids!
What are some lessons you’ve learned during this pandemic?
Time is the most important thing in this world and this time that many people got to spend with their kids at home during the lockdowns, they would have never had the chance to. Time is the ONLY thing in this world that EVERY human being has an equal amount of, yet people always take time for granted.
What are the things you’re grateful for?
My children, wife and my health. Every day we wake up is a great day, the rest is in our hands as to what we do with our time.
Can you please share some stories of what you’re doing during quarantine?
Pretty much the same routine most days, work from 5AM to about 4:00 - 5:00 PM then spend time with kids, nothing too exciting!
Can you give some advice to other people and business out there during this pandemic?
Enjoy every moment of it, we’re living through something that none of us in our generation have experienced. This will either be the norm, with new strands of a new virus coming out once every so often, or lockdowns becoming a “norm” somehow, which is kind of scary if you think about it. Use this time as an opportunity to outwork everyone else, complacency never helped anyone achieve great things.
Do you agree that Blockchain can help sustain the economy?
I don’t think we’re at the time or place where blockchain can help sustain any aspect of the economy. Even with this, we need to be specific, which country? What part of the economy? How? What? There are so many variables, and we need to get acceptance from countries that truly need it. For example, with smaller or developing countries we can try this, ones where banking is hard to get access to, parts of Africa, Asia, South/Central America, where sending a wire goes through 3 or 4 banks because one doesn’t have a correspondent, the other doesn’t have a SWIFT and whatever archaic system is being implemented we can go in, and with blockchain technology, alleviate that stress and allow access to everyone for the simple task of banking that many around the Globe take for granted. We need the willingness of governments to want to accept this technology, which we are slowly getting to and I think in the next 5-10 years, we’ll see accelerated advancement with blockchain technology. The future will be exciting, but I’m not going to say blockchain will save the world, because, most likely, something faster, better, bigger will come.
