BLOCK DOWN STORIES | Marie Tatibouet, CMO of Gate.io

Introduction about yourself and your company?

Gate.io is a global blockchain asset exchange. Established in 2013 and developed fully in-house, Gate.io enables blockchain enthusiasts to trade and store assets in over 200 of the leading cryptocurrencies. Recognizing the importance of blockchain security, Gate.io sets itself apart by prioritizing security and experience, providing users with quick and easy access to assets, at a time and place to suit them.

I am the CMO at Gate.io. I have lived and worked in America, Europe & Asia. Before joining Gate Technology, I was the CEO of a Digital Marketing Agency in Hong Kong, working with clients in the technology sector. As a Blockchain influencer and as someone who believes so strongly in the power of the blockchain technology, I love to spread the importance of blockchain technology for masses, simplifying its technicalities for the everyday user, and indexing on the security and transparency aspects of Blockchain and Crypto evolution.

How are you and your business in this time of crisis?

We haven’t seen a substantial decrease in our trading activities since the coronavirus outbreak. Our facilities and backend processes are running smoothly, which is why none of the user trading requests have been affected. There has been a surge in our overall trading volume due to the recent Bitcoin growth.

However, due to the cancellation of some of the blockchain conferences and events around the world, there is a slowdown in the overall community interaction. This has affected our marketing efforts that were planned ahead of time.

What do you think will happen after all quarantine period will be lifted?

Even if the lockdown is lifted, things will not be the same as before until we have a vaccine. What this means is that the post-COVID 19 eras would be a different world. We are already seeing a huge shift in the work style with all the remote working policies getting great attention. We will also see a change in the education, health-tech, and food-tech industry with more agile systems coming into place.

What are the things you’re doing this lockdown period?

As a part of the leadership team at Gate.io, most of my time goes into meetings with my team and planning user campaigns. We have launched a lot of features on our platform since Feb 2020, and the majority of my time has gone into guiding my team while planning the campaigns around our new features and giveaways of our seventh anniversary; In April 2020 we completed seven years of being in business. Since I am also involved in hiring, there is a lot of time I spend in interviewing candidates and understanding mutual interests. Lastly, I also run some live sessions around major updates for our users since all the events have been canceled due to the pandemic.

What are some lessons you’ve learned during this pandemic?

The most important lesson is that being able to act fast is crucial to handle any form of crisis, big or small. Research shows that if countries that are the worst hit by COVD 19 (China, Italy, and the US)

acted faster (banning travel 2 weeks before they actually did), we could have possibly avoided its spread at such an alarming rate. This applies to crisis in businesses as well. Companies that were behind their counterparts in embracing technologies and updating their supply chain processes are facing their worst nightmare.

Considering how fast everything changes, even for businesses, adapting to the changes that involve learning, unlearning, and constantly innovating is the most important thing to keep going and emerging during the time of crises.

What are the things you’re grateful for?

I am grateful for being a part of the crypto/blockchain industry that is growing so fast. I believe it will bring in promising solutions to the financial world when most traditional markets are seeing sharp downturns paired with a highly unpredictable future. I feel privileged to be a part of such a movement that might change the future of money.

Can you please share some stories of what you’re doing during quarantine?

Generally, I travel a lot to attend global fintech events across the world that help me stay connected with the community. During ECQ where physical social interaction has become zero, I am trying to stay connected with family, friends, colleagues, and our users on social media and live interactive videos.

Can you give some advice to other people and businesses out there during this pandemic?

I think we took really long to realize the benefits of remote work. I would like to advise businesses that this is the time to create flexible policies such as work from home; a lot of tech companies are doing that as we speak. Also, we need to make our processes more digital and connected. Everything from hiring to expense management needs to go 100% digital.

Do you agree that Blockchain can help sustain the economy?

Blockchain already has a lot of interesting use cases. With changing times amid the pandemic it will only give more transparent systems strengthening our financial, supply chain, and healthcare systems; The overall blockchain technology market is estimated to reach USD 21.07 Billion by 2025.
